A Cased 15-Bore D.B. Percussion Sporting Gun
By Purdey, London, No. 2204 For 1832

With rebrowned twist sighted barrels, breeches engraved with scrollwork between and each with platinum line and pierced platinum vent, foliate scroll engraved tang and signed locks, the latter each engraved with a gundog pursuing a gamebird in a landscape, highly figured half-stock (repaired around the tail of each lock) with rechequered grip and fore-end, cheekpiece, engraved steel mounts (butt-plate worn) including trigger-guard with two gundogs in a landscape on the bow, trigger-plate with foliate scroll engraved finial, brass escutcheon engraved with owner's initials, and original brass-mounted ramrod (some areas of wear and rust patination): in original lined and fitted mahogany case with some accessories including Hawksley powder and shot-flasks, the former with bag-shaped body embossed with a pinecone design, the latter with black leather body, the interior of the lid with maker's trade label, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle and circular brass escutcheon, London proof marks
