A Cased 16-Bore D.B. Percussion Sporting Gun
By C. Moore, 77 St. James's Street, London, No. 1600, Circa 1840

With twist sighted barrels signed in full along the rib and stamped 'Chas. Moores Notting Hill Forge Horse Stubs Only' beneath each breech, breeches engraved with foliage between and each with platinum line, rectangular platinum-lined maker's stamp and pierced platinum plug (damaged), foliate scroll engraved tang, signed border engraved locks and mounts, the latter comprising butt-plate and trigger-guard, trigger-plate with pineapple finial, figured half-stock (fore-end chipped along one side) with chequered grip, shield-shaped silver escutcheon engraved with owner's crests and initials, and later horn-tipped ramrod (steel parts worn and rust patinated overall): in relined and refitted mahogany case, the lid (damaged, catches missing) with flush-fitting brass carrying handle, London proof marks
