An English Officer's Sword
Circa 1680

With broad tapering double-edged blade (some pitting) with central fuller on each side of the forte stamped 'Bregio' with running wolf mark beyond, brass hilt comprising double shell-guard cast in relief on each side against a punched waved ground with a Classical horseman and standing semi-naked male figure on either side of a crowned foliate panel, and linked to the knuckle-guard by a slender scrolled bar on each side, the former with central double leaf-calyx, short rear quillon with a Classical horseman on each side, large globular pommel cast in relief against a punched waved ground with a crowned standing figure between horsemen on each side, integral button finial, and original wooden grip bound with twisted brass wire (incomplete)
