A Plug Bayonet
Partly 17th Century

With sharply tapering blade of stiff slightly hollow-ground section, the forte spuriously etched on one side with crowned royal arms between 'CR' monogram above the Latin inscription 'Rex Carolus Dei Gratia', and on another with 'CR' monogram above 'Anno Domini 1679', hilt comprising short waisted quillons with writhen button terminals, a small downbent shell-guard between, turned finial, and tapering figured hardwood grip (spilt) of circular section swelling at the base
