An Unusual Cased Pair Of 27-Bore D.B. Percussion Sporting Guns
By Wilkinson & Son, Gun Makers To His Majesty, Pall Mall, London, No.s 5604/5 For 1844

With browned twist sighted barrels signed in full on the rib and engraved with scrolling foliage and a scallop shell between the breeches, case-hardened breeches with pierced platinum plugs, case-hardened tangs engraved with the crest of the Earls of Ashburnham against a ground of foliated scrollwork, signed foliate scroll engraved case-hardened locks each with external safety-catch engaging with the back of each border engraved case-hardened hammer, highly figured half-stocks (one repaired behind each lock) and each with chequered grip and deeply bellied butt, foliate scroll engraved blued steel mounts comprising butt-plates and trigger-guards, the latter numbered 'No.1' and No.2' respectively in an oval on the bow and each incorporating an unusual grip-safety, case-hardened trigger-plates with pineapple finial, original white-metal mounted ramrods, and much original finish: in original brass-mounted fitted two-tier mahogany case lined in green baize with some accessories including Hawksley powder- and shot-flasks, the interior of the lid with maker's trade label, the exterior with flush-fitting brass carrying handle and circular escutcheon, one end with folding lifting handle, London proof marks
