With browned twist sighted barrel rifled for a belted ball, engraved 'Wilkinson & Son, Patent' along the breech and stamped twice with Birmingham barrelsmith's name 'John Clive' beneath, bayonet-bar on the right side of the muzzle and standing folding leaf back-sight, plain tang, sprung ring-hammer mounted beneath the fore-end and engaging with a catch at the base of the trigger, figured full stock (some bruising and scratching), border engraved blued steel mounts of regulation type including hinged patch-box cover, sling loop, original ramrod, and some original finish, London proof marks

This rifle incorporates Henry Wilkinson's British Patent No. 8119 of 22 June 1839. A Rifle of this design was subjected to a 1,000 round trial in 1840, however it was rejected by the Woolwich Committee. See Howard L. Blackmore, British Military Firearms 1650-1850, 1961, pp. 177-8
