A Fine 1796 Pattern Heavy Cavalry Officer's Dress Sword

With bright tapering double-edged blade etched along most of its length against a matt ground on one side with maker's details, foliage, crowned royal arms and Garter within an octagonal panel framed by an oval on a trophy of arms, a winged figure of Peace and crowned 'GR' monogram above, and along the other with maker's details, foliage, owner's crest within an octagonal panel framed by an oval on a differing trophy of arms, a figure of Britannia and crowned royal arms and Garter above, gilt-brass hilt cast and chased with laurel and flowerheads, comprising boatshell guard engraved on the inside with crowned royal arms and Garter on one side, and owner's crest on the other, straight swelling quillons, knuckle-guard, globular pommel with prominent button finial, and grip bound with twisted silver wire, in original steel scabbard engraved with maker's details on one side at the locket, and with two split-rings for suspension
