Edward VII visited India, as Prince of Wales, between 1875-76. His tour became a political event of great importance and he met a very large number of Indian feudatory princes, many of whom presented him with lavish gifts including jewelled arms and armour. He became acquainted with more rajahs than had all the Viceroys who had reigned over India, and saw more of the country than any living Englishman
