A 'Transitional' Rapier
Late 17th Century

With tapering blade of flattened diamond section, steel hilt comprising double shell-guard each with double central feature and fitted with a plate pierced and chiselled with guilloche ornament between scrolls centred on a Classical trophy of arms , horizontally recurved quillons with chiselled foliate terminals, quillon-block chiselled with a central line of guilloche between scrolls, chiselled fluted ovoidal pommel, and later wire-bound wooden grip (some pitting overall)
