A Field Officer's Sword Of The 78th Highlanders
By Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, No. 24364 For 1881

With bright slightly curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point and etched over half its length on each side of the forte with maker's details, thistles, crowned 'VR' monogram and '78 Highlanders', a crown above, the forte on one side with a vacant panel above circular gilt-lined marker's proof mark, regulation hilt comprising steel guard pierced and engraved with foliage, chequered pommel and back-piece in one, and wire-bound fishskin-covered grip, in its original steel scabbard with two suspension rings (hilt and scabbard with some rust patination)
