A bronze figure of Admiral Lord Nelson English, late 19th century,

by Henry Manell Furse (1860-1950), signed H Furse, the standing figure wearing uniform and holding a telescope in his left hand, above a pedestal cast with ships bows and waves and the four corners decorated with entwined fish and lettered on the four sides with the battle honours Trafalgar, Copenhagen, Nile and St. Vincent, 28in(71cm)high.

Footnotes

These bronze statues were commissioned from J.H.M.Furse by the London department store of Messrs. Debenham & Freebody in 1897 and released by them for sale on Trafalgar Day the same year. Although it is not known how many of them were produced, the fact that they were priced at thirty-five guineas (net) suggested a relatively small number as this sum represented a sizable cost by the standards of the time.
