circa 1806-10
cut with facets around the base, decorated using the Davenport patent technique with a titled picture of The Victory', 10.2cm (a few chips around the feet) (2)

Footnotes

The Davenport factory, most famous as a manufacturer of pottery and porcelain, took out a patent in 1806 for a new method of decorating glass, The technique involved a curious mixture including ground glass, refined loaf sugar, water and ink which is applied to the glass surface as a fine paste. Once heated, the it solidifies on the surface of the glass. Examples are extremely rare. See The Joyce Mountain Collection of Davenport, sold in these rooms on 21 September 2005, lots 149-158
