Autograph letter signed by Thomas Louis ("Tho Louis"), Captain of HM Ship Minotaur at the Battle of the Nile, to his First Lieutenant John Hill, who had been given command of the Minotaur's prize the Aquilon: "I find its not in the power of me to see you God bless You & take care of Aquilon...do mind in the Night & Station your Officers well your own Quarter Masters are to be depended upon - old Taylor you will not forget you are stronger now than you was/ farewell/ in haste...let me hear from you often", and subscribing himself "your sincere friend"; addressed to "Lieut Hill/ Aquilon" and docketed by the latter "1798/ Septr Capt Louis/ of Minotaur", one page, folio, Britannia watermark, trace of wafer seal, very light spotting and wear at folds, Minotaur, September 1798

Footnotes

L'Aquilon, 74-guns, had surrendered to the Minotaur, and Nelson entrusted her to Hill, who took her down to Lisbon where he arrived that November. For his services at the battle he was promoted Commander by commission on 8 October 1798.
