Kazakhstan
Dendritic mineral crystal forms are often mistaken for fossils and are sometimes even called “pseudofossils”. They are naturally occurring as fissures in the rock are filled by percolating mineral solutions when water rich in manganese and iron flows along fractures and bedding planes between layers of limestone or other rock, depositing dendritic crystals as the solution flows through and dries.
Given the appearance of a set of “cameos” these six plaques are each different in character. The two round ones are double-sided while the two oval and two other round ones are single-sided. The hues of rich brown and black contrast beautifully against a ground of beige limestone—a captivating set. (6) Height approximately 1 3/8in.
