By Leo De Vroomen
Born in Holland, Leo de Vroomen, lectured in jewelry design at London’s Central School of Art for many years before setting up his own workshop. He established De Vroomen Design in 1976 together with his wife, Ginnie. Since that time the company has gained international recognition and has twice won the De Beers Diamonds International Award. In 1991, in perhaps an even greater honor, their works were presented at a retrospective exhibition in London’s prestigious Goldsmith’s Hall. Today their clientele is worldwide, although their strongest following is perhaps in the United States.
This impressive and stylish brooch reflects the bold designs of De Vroomen. It is set with a large pear-shaped peridot of bright green color with excellent clarity, weighing approximately 12.82 carats, and a large bright yellow citrine, with exceptional luster, weighing approximately 22.02 carats, separated by a sinuous line of brilliant-cut diamonds, with a total approximate weight of 1.85 carats, mounted in 18K yellow gold. The piece features the use of the enamelwork for which De Vroomen is known. It is bordered by a subtle, translucent enamel decoration, shaded from lavender-grey at the tips to clear in the center, over a guilloché ground. Signed De Vroomen.
