Tsavo National Park, Kenya
Around the time that tanzanite was reported from Tanzania, a new green gemstone was reported from the Tsavo National Park area in Kenya. This is the only place in the world where this green garnet is found. Analysis soon identified the material as a chromium/vanadium grossular garnet with good hardness and a clean green color. Also known as green grossular garnet, the tsavorite garnet derives its name from the Latin word for gooseberry. The material has taken its place among the new palette used by cutting edge designer of jewelry today. This well-matched pair of oval-cut stones of rich, even green color has very good transparency.
Together weighing approximately 3.19 carats. Measuring 9.4 x 6.8 x 2.7mm and 9.0 x 6.8 x 2.9mm.
