Faceted by AGTA Award Winner Mark Kaufman
Diaspore is commonly found associated with either corundum or bauxite (aluminum ore). The name diaspore comes from the Greek word diaspora which means “to scatter”, because it is known to crackle when heated. Typically colorless, or white, one occasionally sees stones of green or brownish. The tabular, or “platy” prisms which are its natural habit never allow for sizes of faceted gems such as this one. This rare mineral has been faceted into a pear-shaped stone and exhibits a pleasant greenish-brown color and good transparency. Weighing approximately 10.5 carats and measuring 8.7 x 11.3 x 8.1mm.
