Named after its original source in Spessart, Germany, the best deposits are presently found in Africa. Spessartite garnets of a reddish-orange color do not normally exceed three carats in weight. It is, furthermore, unusual to see spessartite garnet cut en cabochon. The present stone is notable for its large size and rich saturation of orangey-reddish brown color. A very pleasing stone with good polish. Weighing approximately 52.0 carats and measuring 23.8 x 18.8 x 11.5mm.
