Sri Lanka
Faceted by AGTA Spectrum Award Winner Mark Kaufman
A mineral with insufficient recognition in the jewelry world, except for the phenomenal varieties known as “cat’s eye chrysoberyl” or “color change chrysoberyl” (alexandrite), this gem deserves greater recognition. Chrysoberyl was popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, but was often inaccurately named chrysolite. It is possible that supply was more plentiful during that period, but it certainly is rare these days. A beryllium aluminum oxide with a Moh’s hardness of 8.5 makes it almost as durable as sapphire and suitable for wear in jewelry. This gem-quality, oval cut stone is extremely lively. It has a pleasant lemon-yellow color, excellent luster and clarity. Weighing approximately 8.75 carats and measuring 14.0 x 10.5 x 7.4mm.
