Sphalerite

Spain
A zinc iron sulfide, usually found in black and very occasionally in the pleasant orange color seen here, sphalerite is a major ore of zinc and is rarely seen cut into a gemstone. The luster of sphalerite is its strongest attribute, i.e. it is adamantine, with a high refractive index and a brilliance greater than diamonds. This circular brilliant-cut stone has a deep, relatively even orange color. Weighing approximately 17.28 carats and measuring 14.7 x 10.6mm.
