Lubumbashi, Katanga, Congo
By Bud Standley
A wonderful, museum-quality chrysocolla specimen, brought to life by lapidary artist Bud Standley, a specialist in working with copper minerals. The edges exhibit a precise concentric banding of rich greens and blues, centering on a larger area of indigo with a lustrous high polish which reveals the excellent patterning. The reverse side showing evidence of malachite botryoidal formations and more “rugged” texturing including milliflora, of bright blue chrysocolla and malachite. The specimen itself was formerly from the private collection of Gilbert Gauthier, former manager of the malachite mine of the Belgian Congo during the 1960s. See illustration for front and back view. Measuring 12 ¼ x 8 x 2 ¾ in.
