By Georg O. Wild
Idar-Oberstein, Germany
Retailed by Gump’s, San Francisco, California
The exoticism of African animals would have appealed to Northern Europeans and certainly the workshops of Fabergè made use of similar subject matter. The substantial animal rendered of fine-quality Russian nephrite, is well-conveyed by the black veining inherent in the material and stippling to illustrate his textured skin. His eyes are formed of rubies. Signed GW for Georg O. Wild. Measuring 6 ½ x 2 ½ x 2in.
