Indicolite Tourmaline with Clevelandite

Paprook, Nuristan
Kunar Province,Afghanistan

Exceptional for its form, this specimen has the unique feature of featuring TWO very high-quality intergrown trigonal crystals, an unusual formation for indicolites, especially ones of this size. Furthermore, it is also notable for the unusual growth pattern on the termination of the lower crystal. While it is of indeterminate origin, this growth is mineralogically interesting and may give clues as to the formation of the crystal itself. The wonderful aesthetics are completed by a cluster of snow white bladed crystals of cleavelandite which rest at its base. Most obviously, the saturation of the blue color is superb—as good as it gets—with a wonderfully thick band of color zoning capping both crystals. An excellent addition to any serious tourmaline collection. Measuring 2 ½ x 2 ¼ x 2 3/8 in.
