A greenish-brown iron carbonate, having rhombohedral crystals and a colorfully iridescent shimmer. Siderite is named for the Greek word for iron, sideros. It is closely related to the minerals rhodochrosite and magnesite. Attractive specimens such as this one are very difficult to find. The present specimen was found about 2 years ago. Measuring 4 ½ x 3 ½ x 3in.
