Selenite Twins on Halite

Lily Mine
Ica, Peru

A striking, very large display specimen with beautifully clear tabular orange crystals, measuring up to nearly 2 inches in length, radiating in all directions. The selenites from recent finds in Peru have redefined the species in terms of color appeal with their richness—unusual for the species. Selenite, a soft minerals species, is easily subject to damage upon removal from the mines and during subsequent transport to this country. The present example is remarkable for its high state of perfection and lack of damage. The underside shows evidence of a halite matrix. Measuring 8 x 4 ½ x 2 ½ in.
