Harmonious Hammer Mine, Dreamtime Claim, Crystal Peak area of Teller County, Colorado
The name of the mine, "Harmonious Hammer", was derived from the sound of continuous hammering made by prospectors feverishly banging away at the rock in this claim. This unusual specimen of fluorite was found by prospector Quentin Goode during the summer of 2005. It is not only the crystal habit which is uncustomary for fluorite--a "modified octahedron"--but its color, in particular, is special. While fluorites of other colors can be found in Teller County, Colorado, a pink one has never before been seen. It seems that there were a total of three specimens in this pocket, known as the “Pandemonium Pocket Complex”, and of those discovered, this was the best. On the underside of the crystal there is a small associate of feldspar visible as well as some triangular growth structures on the surface. A truly rare occurrence-a pink fluorite-in a color reminiscent of either Pakistani or European alpine fluorites. Measuring 5 1/2 x 6 x 3in.
