Hand fabricated in Italy
Originating in Australia, the material used to create this striking box is known as mookaite. Its bold patterning is the result of boring worms which drilled through driftwood which was subsequently buried and fossilized. The worm holes, giving the appearance of “peanuts” were filled in with light colored sediments while the wooden areas retained a dark color—the result of organic material being included in the fossil wood. A beautifully crafted box lined with black onyx, the lid of hinged design. Measuring 6 x 4 x 1 ½ in.
