Giant Ground Sloth Claw

Giant Ground Sloth Claw
Megatherium americanum
Late Pleistocene
Colonia, Uruguay

An absolute lack of restoration and a complete sheath distinguish an excellently preserved 10-50 thousand-year-old Giant Ground Sloth claw. Megatherium had long, shaggy brown fur as evidenced by preserved skin and fur from North American specimens. Preserved trackways in South America have indicated that Megatherium, like modern day bears, had the capacity to walk on its hind legs. Measures 8in. Measures 10in along the curve.
