Woolly Rhino Skull with Horn

Coelodonta antiquitatis
Pleistocene
Jeneisey River, Krasnovarsk region, Southern Siberia, Russia

The woolly rhinoceras was one of the largest animals to inhabit the vast Arctic tundra of the Pleistocene, second in size only to the mastodon. A paleontological reminder of the vast sheets of ice that covered much of the Northern Hemisphere, the woolly rhino exhibited a long, shaggy coat. Interestingly, its nasal horn was composed of matted hair, not bone. Exhibiting all of the original teeth, the present skull is completely original with no restoration. Accompanying the impressive skull is the original nasal horn. Skull measures 29in (length) x 15in (height, horn measures approximately 33in. in length.
