Tyrannosaur Cast Skull

Tarbosaurus bataar
Cretaceous
Nemegt Valley, Mongolia

During the last part of the Cretaceous, 85 to 65 million years ago, the Tyrannosauridae (meaning tyrant lizards) ruled the land. While T. rex terrorized North America, the closely related Tarbosaurus bataar, reaching lengths of more than twelve meters, menaced Mongolia. Some paleontologists believe that Tarbosaurus is so closely related to Tyrannosaurus that the two should be placed in the same genus; they approve of changing Tarbosaurus bataar to Tyrannosaurus bataar. Classified as theropods, Tyrannosaurids walked on two legs and were carnivores, perhaps scavengers, whose fearsome teeth evidence their meat-eating habit. The present offering is a complete skull cast from the largest species of Tyrannosaurus found in Asia. The skull and lower jaw have been cast in resin as separate parts. Measuring approximately 44 x 26 x 24in.
