Footnotes
Provenance: Frances L. Dickson Collection, Sotheby's 3rd June, 1954, lot 60. The tower of Sao Vicente (or Belem) was erected at the mouth of the Tagus in Lisbon to mark the successful return of Vasco da Gama after his discovery of the sea route to India. The same design was used for 'Toquay', 'Quetsche' and 'Pontac', see John Salter, Wine Labels, p. 297 and fig. 1000. See also lot 80 for 'Pontac'.
