An early Minton pâte-sur-pâte plaque by Louis Solon

dated 1872
rectangular, the bright blue ground decorated by Louis Solon in finely carved white relief with two classical figures wearing diaphanous robes attempting to bind two Cupids with a rope, trophies of music and war at their feet, signed 'L Solon 72', 31 x 19.5cm

Footnotes

This important plaque was decorated shortly after Louis Solon moved to England and joined Minton. It appears to be in a form of hard paste porcelain, similar to Solon's previous work executed in France. As such, this should be compared with the slightly earlier plaque from the Minton Museum, sold in these rooms 23rd July 2002, lot 192.
