A Minton pâte-sur-pâte plaque by Louis Solon

dated 1907
rectangular, the black ground decorated by Louis Solon, in finely carved white relief with a figure of Venus seated on the ground in diaphanous robes while two cupids drink eagerly from the tazzas she offers them, a ewer by her feet, signed 'L Solon 07', 20 x 11cm

Footnotes

Louis Solon (1835-1913) was responsible for developing and perfecting the pâte-sur-pâte technique used at Minton. Trained at Sèvres, he worked at Minton from 1870-1904, but continued to work from home during his retirement.
