of serpentine form with a high gilded serpent handle, the upper surface with three large holes containing two inkwells and a pounce pot, and four smaller holes for quills, the front painted with a rectangular panel of a group of shells, corals and seaweed, reserved on a grey marbled ground, 17.5cm wide, incised B marks (one cover a replacement, two with restored knops, some very slight wear to the gilding) (7)
