A Worcester plate, perhaps by Fidelle Duvivier

circa 1772-75
with a scalloped edge, painted in Sèvres style with two colourful birds beside a leafy tree, another bird in flight above them, gilt dentil rim, 20.5cm (very slight wear only)

Footnotes

Painting in this style has traditionally been attributed to M Soqui. However, the painting style is similar to that of Fidelle Duvivier. See the teapot and cover in The Ashmolean Museum signed 'F Duvivier/in/ins/1772' and illustrated by Dinah Reynolds, Worcester Porcelain, pl 23, p 54. The similarities become more evident when Duvivier's work on New Hall is examined, especially the tea and coffee service painted with birds and illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, New Hall Porcelains, pl 81.
