A rare Worcester spoon tray

circa 1770
of lobed oval shape with twin stalk handles and delicate 'Blind Earl' moulding, painted with a 'Hop Trellis' design of puce and gold trellis panels, alternating with red and blue berried garlands pendant from an overglaze blue enamel border, the handles picked out in blue and gold, 16.8cm (slight wear, some slight oxidisation to blue enamel)

Footnotes

The formal 'Hop Trellis' design has been painted without regard for the 'Blind Earl' moulding underneath, the painting carefully executed so as not to allow the moulded buds on the handle terminals to spoil the line of the border
