A rare Worcester octagonal teapot and cover

circa 1754
of squat shape, the domed cover with a pointed finial, moulded with arcaded tripartite panels, scroll-edged on one side, divided by palm trees on the other, painted in blue with 'The Captive Bird' pattern, comprising Chinese coastal landscapes, a man punting a sampan with a bird in flight with a long tether on one side, the other with a fisherman by a two-storied pavilion, floral sprays and insects on the shoulder, the cover also moulded with tripartite panels painted with a fisherman, the borders with a diaper pattern reserved with flowerhead panels, 18.2cm wide, matching workman's marks of three lines on the base and inside the cover (restored chip to neckrim and to one corner of the rim of the cover, minute chip to spout tip) (2)
