A Chelsea teapot and cover

circa 1755-1757
of baluster shape with a hexagonal spout and a slightly domed cover with flower finial, painted with a group of three colourful birds perched on a low branch issuing from a woody stump, the reverse with a flower spray including a variegated tulip, brown line rims, 14.2cm, red anchor mark (minute chips to the tip of the spout, knop restored, some wear to enamels) (2)

Inspired by Meissen, this precise shape and pattern was copied at Worcester where blue and white versions are known as the "Thrush" pattern
