With fullered blade (some pitting) double-edged at the point, the forte etched and gilt against a blued ground along one side with crowned royal arms and mottoes, foliated strapwork and 'John Gills Warranted', and with 'GR' crowned, a martial trophy and foliated strapwork along the other, gilt-copper hilt with side-guard enclosing a fouled anchor, knuckle-guard with ring, border engraved cushion-shaped pommel, and reeded ivory grip (minor split), in original black leather scabbard (some consolidation and crazing) with linear engraved gilt-copper locket, chape (later) and suspension mount (gilding worn), the former signed in full within an oval on one side and with frog button on the other, and with two rings for suspension
