A Naval Officer's Five-Ball Hilted Hanger
By Bennett, Sword Cutler To The Prince Of Wales, 67 Royal Exchange, Late 18th Century

With slightly curved fullered single-edged blade (polished bright, some pitting) etched with foliage along each side of the forte, gilt-copper hilt with replacement side-guard enclosing a fouled anchor, knuckle-guard with ring, border engraved cushion-shaped pommel, and reeded ivory grip with medial gilt-copper band engraved with a crowned fouled anchor within an oval on one side, in original tooled black leather scabbard (consolidated) with linear engraved gilt-copper locket, chape and suspension mount, the former signed on one side and with frog button on the other, and with two rings for suspension
