With slightly curved fullered blade (worn, some pitting overall) double-edged towards the point and lightly etched with a trophy of arms and foliage on both sides at the forte, regulation brass stirrup hilt retaining traces of gilding and engraved with a crowned fouled anchor on each langets, fluted pommel and back-strap in one, and wire-bound black fishskin-covered grip (minor damage), in original black leather scabbard (worn, damaged and repaired) with linear engraved brass locket, chape and suspension mount all retaining traces of gilding, the former with frog-stud and engraved 'This French Sword Blade was taken at the Battle of Trafalgar, 1805, from a French 74 L'Intrepide which struck to H.M.S. Orion 74 and who burnt her prize 3 days after, totally dismasted in the Battle', the latter engraved 'Capt. Chas. Hall R.N.'

Footnotes
Charles Hall joined the Navy in 1804 having been impressed from mate of a West Indiaman. He served as a Masters Mate on the Orion (74) at Trafalgar. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1815, Commander in 1841 and Captain in 1853. He died in 1863
