With curved blade double-edged towards the point and faintly etched with a martial trophy and foliage along its entire length on each side, hilt comprising gilt-brass foliate quillons (one replaced, knuckle-chain missing), langet-mount engraved with a starburst on one side, gilt-brass pommel cast and chased as a lion-mask and extending to form a back-piece engraved with two lines of darts, and swelling spirally-grooved ivory grip, in original black leather scabbard with gilt-copper locket, chape and suspension mount each engraved with foliage on the outside, the former engraved with a martial trophy on one side and inscribed 'Capt. Edward Codrington RN' on the other, and with two roped suspension rings
