A Naval Officer's Dirk
Early 19th Century

With curved single-edged blade (lightly pitted) fullered along the back-edge for most of its length on each side, gilt-brass hilt (gilding worn) comprising recurved quillons (knuckle-chain missing), small side-guard centred on a cast basket of fruit, dolphin pommel cast and chased in the round and extending to form a scaled back-piece, and partly chequered rounded ivory grip (repaired, minor splits), in original gilt-brass scabbard engraved with a bold design of foliage along one side, and with two fixed rings for suspension (worn overall)
