Admiral Sir John Jervis (1735-1823) commanded the British Fleet in the successful action against the Spanish at Cape St Vincent, 14th February 1797, where a dynamic Commodore Nelson boarded and captured the Spanish First Rate San Josef, after first boarding and crossing the San Nicolas. As a result of the Victory, Nelson was promoted to Rear Admiral and awarded the Order of the Bath, and Jervis a Baronetcy and the title Earl St Vincent.
