With sharply tapering blade adapted from a 17th Century rapier blade, and with the central fuller on one side stamped 'De Tomas' and 'De Alaia' within the other, hilt comprising gilt-brass oval shell-guard engraved with flowerheads and foliage on the inside, the outside dated and engraved with owner's initials, gadrooned gilt-brass pommel-cap with prominent button, and tapering spirally grooved wire-bound wooden grip, in original brass-mounted black leather scabbard with frog-button and two suspension rings
