Footnotes
Tommaso Saulini (1793-1864) was one of the foremost cameo engravers in Rome during the 19th century. Together with his son Liuigi Saulini (1819-1883) his highly successful workshop produced exquisite carvings in shell and hardstone which were exhibited at the Great Exhibition in 1851 and International Exhibition in 1862. Saulini was highly revered for his cameo depictions of famous sculptures and for his classical and contemporary portraits.
