Footnotes

Roger Curtis entered the Navy in 1762 and reached post rank in 1777. He was knighted for his actions at the Siege of Gibraltar in 1782/3.

He commanded the Queen Charlotte from 1793-1797 and was Fleet Captain at the Glorious 1st June carrying the flag of Lord Howe. After the battle the returning fleet was met by King George III who presented Lord Howe with a gold and diamond encrusted sword and awarded Curtis a baronetcy and a gold chain and medal.

Curtis was Commander-in-Chief, Cape of Good Hope, between 1799 and 1808 and attained the rank of Full Admiral of the Red before his death in 1816.
