'England expects'

Watercolour by G.F. Herbert, who had served as midshipman on HMS Neptune at Trafalgar, of the hoists of Nelson's signal 'England Expects that Every Man will do His Duty', inscribed on the reverse: "drawn by Rear Admiral G.F. Herbert from his notes when Midshipman of HMS Neptune at the Battle of Trafalgar. Certified by his only son - G.F. Herbert, Major The Royal Fusiliers Anglesea Barracks Portsmouth. 1871", within a decorative border, inscribed with the Garter and other mottos, watercolour on paper, some slight fading, minor tears etc., framed and glazed (unexamined out of frame), 26 x 31 cm., overall 38 x 43 cm.
