An illuminated Qur’an section, part 1-15, copied by Fadle ibn Murhaf al-Tamimi al-Bahrani

Arabic manuscript on paper, 292 leaves, 9 lines of text to the page copied in bold naskhi script, with important words highlighted in red within ruled borders, with a double page frontispiece bearing the text of al-Fatihah and the beginning of Surat al-Baqarah, preceded by two illuminated pages decorated with floral and geometrical designs and illuminated in colours mainly red, blue, green and saffron in Arabian style, titles including sura headings are copied in ornamental thuluth script, verse endings marked by a cluster of three red dots, the word Allah highlighted in red throughout, Qur’anic divisions marked in the margins in text and devices, richly annotated with interlinear and marginal commentaries, with a full colophon at the end and an important ownership notation relating to Prince Muhammad son of the Zaidi Imam ` Izz al-Din ibn al-Hasan, dated 966 AH/1558 AD, discoloration, edges frayed, some soiling, crude repair, modern leather binding, with flap
