A Khorasan silver inlaid bronze Inkwell
Persia, 12th Century

the cylindrical body with inward sloping sides, the flat lid with raised dome surmounted by a ball finial, the lid and body with attachment loops, a frieze of interlace roundels between bands of kufic and cursive inscription around the body, the interior with a kufic inscription around the rim, the lid with a band of inscription around the lid

This inkwell is virtually identical to an example in the British Museum, London (Rachel Ward, Islamic Metalwork, London, 1993, fig. 6) and an inkwell sold in these rooms, Bonhams & Brooks, Islamic Works of Art, 17th October 2001, lot 326.
